Tuesday Stuff

So I'd say it was a good weekend. Birthday stuff, a barbeque at Staci and John's place, and then a leisurely Sunday.

I have a full schedule for like, the next two and a half months. There's poker night and dinner with Randi this weekend. Two Sweet Briar events in September (a tea/lecture in DC and Homecoming weekend back on campus) and then down to SC for a few days after that. Matt and Sarah's wedding, Matt's birthday, and the Baltimore Heart Walk in October. And then a weekend trip to NJ and down to SC for Thanksgiving in November. And then the holiday parties start! Sheesh.

We signed up to sponsor a child this morning. One of the radio stations we listen to is doing their annual Compassion Week, where they partner with Compassion International Ministries to help find sponsors for children. Their goal this year is 1000, and as of 10am they were up to 199. If you're interested in participating, you can go to the WRBS home page and click on the Compassion Week banner about halfway down the page. Our little girl is named Monik; she is 7 years old and lives in Indonesia. Matt wanted a girl from Taiwan Thailand, because he said that child prostitution is a big problem there, but there weren't any on the list. So I guess that's a good thing! Maybe next year there will be; I'm intrested in sponsoring another when we have more money (either a girl from Taiwan Thailand or a boy from Africa would be my pick).

Well that's about it. Maybe I'll have links later today or tomorrow if I find anything interesting. But for now, I have work, lunch, lab meeting, and then shoe shopping!

Thailand, not Taiwan.

A friend of mine was in the navy and said that once they got off the boat in Thailand, they were surrounded by 10-15 year old prostitutes, and their parents were acting as the pimps. It's a really sad situation in that country.
