Quickies from the AP

Ken Lay...Dead? Or did he fake his own death? Seems to me an awfully convenient heart attack, and if anyone had the money and connections to pull it off, it would be him.

UPDATE: And it's also awfully convenient that because he died before sentencing and the appeals process, he's technically innocent in the eyes of the law and therefore US prosecutors can't push a case to seize $43.5M in profits from the allegedly illegal activities at Enron.

NJ Government Shutdown Continues - the casinos, state parks, etc closed their doors at 8am today. The irony is that the gov't is shut down because of an inability to resolve a $4.5B budget deficit (the Repubs want to raise the sales tax to 7%), but closing the casinos costs the state $1.3M per day - which only serves to exacerbate the problem.

More later.
