If we had $1,000,000

Apparently when there's money involved, Carly and I get very excited:

Even a broken clock is right twice a day?

Oh this is awesome. "Little Billy" (really a guy with too much time on his hands) wrote letters to a bunch of serial killers asking for advice on whether or not he should drop out of school. Their responses are priceless.

I can't wait to get out of here today...I have Old Navy waiting for me when I get home!

A puzzle for my readers

I will give someone a dollar and a cookie if they can tell me the anthropology journals that the citations Nat. Tr. and Nor. Tr. stand for. Helpful hint - the anthropologists Spencer, Gillen, and Howitt have all published in one or both of these journals around the turn of the last century.

Career Change?

I really want to pre-order Wii Fit! (Update: I did!)

My commuting costs are over $14 a day now :*-( Even more sobering is the fact that I'm spending 16% of my take-home pay just driving to and from work.

Ahh, Spa

Corny, I know. But I couldn't think of anything else to put in the title line.

I made my spa appointment for vacation at Spa Koru. It's the only spa in the Outer Banks, so I decided I should probably call early before they start to book up. As I think I mentioned before, I chose the swedish massage, pedicure, and deep conditioning hair treatment. I've already started saving up for the trip :-)

After the combination of getting asked to do another (paid) MRI research study and Matt learning he's going to Boston on a business trip at the end of June, I decided to make a little "treat" of an appointment at our local spa in the mall. I wanted something a bit different from my vacation appointment, so I decided on a reflexology foot massage, a mini facial and a french manicure. I think I'm going to mentally make this "my spa" as opposed to the Elizabeth Arden one in Kentlands, because it would have cost me $70 more for the exact same thing there.

Two spa trips in two months! Who do I think I am, Paris Hilton? :-D

Friday-Sunday

Decent weekend. Worked on a class project and my review article. Recorded from an anthro book on Saturday. Went out to eat at the Cheesecake Factory Saturday night. Carly and Eric came over Sunday evening; we ordered calzones (yum) and watched The Usual Suspects and did NOT play tennis because of the stupid rain.

We were watching something (I think it was Seinfeld) and they mentioned philanthropy. It reminded me of one of my favorite Peanuts cartoons - Linus says "When I grow up, I want to be a philanthropist." Charlie Brown (or Lucy?) says "I think you need to be rich to be a philanthropist" and Linus replies, "Then I'll be a philanthropist with other people's money."

Go to google.com, type in "find chuck norris" and hit the "I'm feeling lucky" button.

So this anthro book I've been reading from, there was an essay by a guy trying to draw comparisons between organisms and specialized cells, and societies and the roles of members within. And there was a footnote in the text: "Additionally, note that in Spencer's view men are superior to women. Men do the brain work; women are left with the industrial processes. Although in his early work Spencer had suggested radical female equality, he later reversed this position and suggested that the needs of reproduction arrested the mental evolution of females at an early age." Fortunately it was written a lot earlier than I had thought. I had incorrectly remembered 1940s, but it was actually written in 1860.

The Thirty is now The Forty

Today was my fortieth trip to Let's Dish. They thanked me with flowers and a $100 gift certificate!

I thought refusing a Facebook friend request was the ultimate intarweb insult. But oh no, apparently someone took it to the next level and DEFRIENDED me. Oh the humanity! *cries*

Ah, internet. Making passive aggressiveness that much more passive since 1983. :-)

-----

Been a busy couple of weeks. Working on one paper and getting the last of the data for another. We've been/will be busy most weekends too. Steve was in town and we got together with people at Buca di Beppo (yum!) and then Carly's birthday was this past weekend - grilling, trivial pursuit, and karaoke! We're going to the Cheesecake Factory with Joel and Terri this weekend, and then it's like two weeks until Eddie Izzard and Allison's wedding. And then reunion, and then another wedding. Whew!

I canNOT wait until vacation. I started saving up to spend an afternoon here. Massage, pedicure and hair treatment? Yes please! I don't like their new website though :-/ They used to have a downloadable spa menu, and now it's only available smushed into a column one-fifth of the width of the website and you can't use arrow keys to scroll through it either! Somebody get these people a copy of Web Design 101.

Umm. New TV = check. New iPod transmitter (because someone swiped mine from my car, grr) = check. Matt bought and installed an external hard drive so we can back up all our junks. I'm getting ready to make another Old Navy order (natch) because I've finally gotten gift card rewards from two of my survey sites AND it's Stuff'N'Save time. This shirt is soo perfect for summer.

I do still want to review new albums. One of these days. I have a class project due soon and a final at the end of the month, so maybe after that.

Brief PSA

The tops to Papa Johns Special Sauces are lined with foil.

I just almost set our microwave on fire.

You have been warned.
